Obituary

You can hear the music and see the grace, spirit, and love in her dancing. Kiyoko (Aka) Lucero was born April, 7 1939 on Okinawa Island and at just 24 years old, she decided to move across the globe with the man she loved to start a family. Unfamiliar with the language and customs, she adapted quickly and in many ways, was already prepared for these challenges. At just five years old, during the Battle of Okinawa, she guided her little sister, Chiyoko, along the roads to safety. That same courage, determination, and love for those around her would stay with her throughout her life, and help shape the remarkable woman she became.

She was preceded in death just four weeks ago, by her beloved husband of 62 years, Jose Maria Lucero Jr., and survived by her sister Chiyoko Matusada, daughter Elizabeth Michiko (Lucero) Moffatt, sons Jose Maria Lucero III and Steven Lucero, nieces Masayo and Noriko, nephew Masakai, grandsons Xavier, Silas and Alexandar, spouses Michael Moffatt and Denise Lucero, along with so many more family and friends.

Our beautiful Mamasan taught us to be fearless and respectful, courageous and kind, and always love whomever you invite into your home. We will miss our beloved Mamasan, so in honor of her, please turn up the music and dance your heart out, because that is exactly what she would do.
